Lintel Trust Backs Specialist Housing Advice for Disabled Veterans
Lintel Trust has awarded £2,000 to Disabled Persons Housing Service Aberdeen to support its Veterans Voice Project, helping disabled veterans and their families access specialist housing advice and advocacy.
Disabled Persons Housing Service Aberdeen provides housing advice, information and advocacy for disabled people, their families and carers. The organisation has close links with local housing associations, including Castlehill Housing Association, Sanctuary Housing, Blackwood Housing and Langstane Housing Association.
Supporting veterans through transition
Moving from military or civil service into civilian life can be a daunting experience. For ex-servicemen and women who also have a disability, finding a suitable and accessible home can add further pressure at an already challenging time.
Veterans Voice recognises these additional challenges and works with disabled veterans and their families to support independence, wellbeing and informed housing choices.
What the project provides
The project offers home and hospital visits to identify individual needs, advice on home adaptations, support with housing applications and homeownership options, and help to access grant funding where available.
It also signposts clients to advice on fuel poverty, benefits and income maximisation, helping to improve the lives of ex-service personnel and their families across the Aberdeen area.
Project aims
Improve wellbeing through suitable care packages.
Increase awareness of housing options.
Reduce social isolation for disabled veterans.
Empower veterans to make choices about their housing needs.
Help reduce delayed discharge from hospital.
Provide accurate information to landlords to inform future new-build decisions.
Disabled Persons Housing Service Aberdeen has a long and well-recognised history of providing excellent support to clients. The organisation has received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, which recognises outstanding contributions made by voluntary groups in the third sector.
