Town Break Befriending Project

Supporting people with dementia at home

Town Break’s Befriending Project supports people in Stirlingshire who are living at home with early to moderate dementia. The project aims to improve health, wellbeing and quality of life by helping people stay connected, confident and socially engaged.

Regular companionship and meaningful connection

Through the service, 40 people living in housing association and sheltered housing will receive regular support from trained volunteer befrienders. Each person will receive a weekly visit of around two hours, creating space for conversation, companionship and meaningful social interaction.

  • Reduce loneliness and isolation.

  • Support people with dementia to maintain confidence, skills and independence.

  • Provide tailored cognitive stimulation activities that reflect each person’s needs and interests.

  • Help people remain in their own home, or a homely setting, for as long as possible.

Training volunteers to provide safe, person-centred support

The Lintel Trust grant award will contribute to the support and training of 15 volunteer befrienders, ensuring they have the confidence, knowledge and resources needed to provide safe, person-centred support.

Strengthening local dementia support

By investing in volunteer-led befriending, the project will strengthen local dementia support and help more people experience connection, routine and companionship within their own communities.
