Centre81 Skills Development Project receives Funding from Lintel Trust

Centre81 Steering Group in East Clydebank has been awarded £1,000 from Lintel Trust’s Small Grants Fund to support its Skills Development Project for young people in Whitecrook and the surrounding area.

Supporting young people in Whitecrook

Centre81 is a Clydebank Housing Association wider role initiative based in the heart of the Whitecrook community. Whitecrook is recognised as one of Scotland’s most deprived areas, and Centre81 plays an important role in local regeneration by helping residents access skills, qualifications, experience and community support.

Through its Skills Development Project, Centre81 gives young people a safe, welcoming and enjoyable space to meet, socialise and take part in positive activities. The project helps participants build social, cognitive and educational skills through shared learning, creativity, teamwork and informal peer support.

How the funding will be used

Lintel Trust’s funding will help Centre81 purchase resources for its young people’s groups, including:

  • art materials to encourage creativity and self-expression

  • sports equipment to support physical activity and teamwork

  • books to promote learning and personal development

  • banking supplies to support practical skills and group activities.

These resources will support activities that build confidence, encourage participation and contribute to young people’s social, educational, cognitive and personal development.

Making activities accessible

The project currently runs two free after-school groups for local young people: a Wednesday art club with capacity for 16 participants and a Thursday youth group that can welcome up to 45 young people per session. By offering these sessions free of charge, Centre81 helps remove financial barriers to participation and ensures young people can access positive, inclusive activities within their own community.

Creating wider community benefit

The project also supports wider community wellbeing by engaging young people in constructive activities, encouraging social interaction and helping to reduce anti-social behaviour. Support from Lintel Trust’s Small Grants Fund will help Centre81 continue to provide meaningful opportunities for young people to learn, connect and thrive.

“The support of Lintel Trust’s funding will be of massive significance to our organisation as it will allow us to purchase art materials, sports equipment, books and banking supplies, which will all be used at our groups for our young people. All of this will be beneficial in assisting with our young people’s social, educational, cognitive and personal development.”
— Eilish McAleer, Project Co-ordinator, Centre81 Steering Group
